Accounting courses are offered at most community colleges and universities. If you decide to take accounting courses, you will begin with Principles of Accounting I. Some schools require you to take the beginner college credit math course (college algebra) first, as a prerequisite, and take your English placement test with a score that places you in credit English.
After you complete Principles of Accounting I, your next course will be Principles of Accounting II. The principles of accounting courses teach you the basics of accounting. If you want to learn more involved, in-depth accounting knowledge, you can move on to courses such as Tax Accounting, Cost Accounting, Financial Accounting and Small Business Accounting, according to the Anne Arundel Community College 2010-1011 catalog.
