In modern management, it is important role and key factor to determine incentive, motivation of employee in human resource management . Over the past century , scientists have made an efforts to give many theories to explain human motivation . First mention Mc Gregor who find out the needs , motivations and analysis of human behavior with theory X and theory Y. However, today, the dominant theory in business administration is theory Z of Maslow. Although the theory appears more but they probably have the same opinion that society be likely a computer operating system . The first system is motivation 1.0. It thinks that human nature is a combination of desire to survive . Motivation is very important, it does not decide our nature . We have a second drive that is looking for more rewards and avoiding punishment at a larger scale . It lead to new operating system which called motivation 2.0 . This motivation has played a key role in world economy during the last two decades. It has quickly been recognized widely . This is the philosophy of " stick and carrot " in management . That philosophy shows that human beings similar to horses . To get it in the right direction, we have to use a fresh carrot or a stick. However, as the twentieth century passed slowly , the growth economy is more complex ,this approach has met with little difficulties . Example : " In 1995, there are two dictionaries encyclopedias investment . The first encyclopedia is a product of Microsoft . Microsoftwill fun it . Groups will pay professional authors and editors to edit articles on thousands of various topics . The managers who were received high salary, is responsible for monitoring projects to ensure completion on budget and on time . Then , Microsoft will sell the encyclopedias on CD-ROMs and later online . Second set will not come from company . It will be created by tens of thousands of people , who write and edit articles for fun . These hobbyists will not need any qualifications to participate. And nobody will be paid a dollar to write or edit articles . The encyclopedia will be free- no charge for anyone who wants to use it. In yout mind, one of these encyclopedia will be largest encyclopedia in the world and most popular in the and the other will be defunct. Which is which :
The encyclopedia without behind company that Wikipedia , the encyclopedia has reached the scale of 13 million articles in 260 languages . And Microsoft 's MSN Encarte was death on 31.10.2009 .
In the terms of " stick and carrot " , with legitimate reward , Microsoft 's MSN Encarte should be a resounding success. But in this case, there is conflict, why? Obviously, Motivation 2.0 is inadequate with how we organize what we do, how we think about what we do and how we do what we do . The main reasons that led to motivation 3.0. Beside factors of motivation 2.0 , human has still third motivation: learning, creating and making the world better off . This new approach consists of three main parts : Autonomy - mastery and purpose .
1 - Autonomy : desiring to guide own life mean we will work under supervising ourselves. It includes 4 factors to encourage behavioral type I : TASK , TIME, TECHNIQUE and TEAM.
2 – SELF- EMPLOYED : inquisitive thinking and willingness to test his own way to find new solutions . While motivation 2.0 requires compliance, the motivation 3.0 requires join in actively. And pursuit of master, an important part but often neglect of our third drivehas become essential to help us succeed in the economy . SELF- EMPLOYED will include 3 rules :mastery is mindset, mastery is a pain and mastery is asymptote.
3 - PURPOSE : seek purpose- a cause greater and more enduring than themselves.With motivatio 3.0, purpose maximization is taking its place alongside with profit maximization and its role is to promote and directions . In the company , this new motivational goals are expressed in three forms: in goal that use profit to reach purpose, in the words emphasize more than self interests and in policies that allow people to pursue their goals .
In summary, motivation 3.0 has showed mismatch between what science knows and what business does. Science has shown that typical 2o centery carrots and sticks motivation- things we consider somehow a natural part of human enterprise can sometime work well . But they are only effective in a very few circumstances even they can crush creativity . Science also shows that behind these achievements is not biological drive or our reward and punishment drive that we can self employed my life , expanding the possibilities of the body and live a purposeful life . And applying the knowledge of this dynamic twenty-first century is an essential work in the business world . Currently, the most successful companies in the world have proven this theory to create the most innovative organizations such as Google with 20 % fund - time means allowing employees to use 20 % of working time to perform any task that they like .
